There are currently four servers on PWI. All servers are named after cities in the game, with the exception of Twilight Temple, which is named after a dungeon. Previously there were nine servers, however they have since been merged.
You can find the online/offline status of the login servers and their current times here. Note that the actual game servers can still be down while the login servers are up.
Maintenance on the servers is scheduled on Tuesday nights from 11pm Pacific Time for approximately 2-4 hours. An announcement thread is usually posted to the General Discussion section of the forums on Tuesday evenings. The servers also go down for maintenance for Daylight Saving Time adjustments.
Server List[edit | edit source]
|Server Name||Location||Type||Primary Language|
|Etherblade||West Coast USA||PvE||English|
|Twilight Temple||West Coast USA||PvE||English|
|Tideswell||East Coast USA||PvE||English|
|Dawnglory||Europe||PvE||English, German and French|
East Coast USA servers operate on EST (Eastern Standard Time) or EDT (Eastern Daylight Time), which is UTC/GMT (Universal Time Code/Greenwich Mean Time) -05:00 or -04:00 respectively.
West Coast USA servers operate on PST (Pacific Standard Time) or PDT, which is UTC/GMT -08:00 or -07:00 respectively.
European servers operate on CET (Central European Time) or CEST (Central European Summer Time), which is UTC/GMT +1:00 or +2:00 respectively.
When you are logged into the game, you can find the server time by opening the Encyclopedia and clicking Events to open the Event Calendar.
The East Coast servers are newer than all of the West Coast servers (except Archosaur). The European servers (based in Amsterdam in the Netherlands) are the newest of all of the servers opened as of April 24, 2013. original European servers Lothranis (French) and Momaganon (German) were merged together to form the Morai server. The oldest server is the Etherblade server, which was used in the beta release, and is now only used as a test server (you cannot play on the Etherblade server). Do not confuse the test server Etherblade with the Etherblade server that resulted from a merge.
On PvE servers, players normally can only attack each other if they go into PK (Player Killing) mode, which lasts for a minimum of 10 hours. A few areas still remain, such as some rooms in the Cube of Fate, where PK is always enabled.
Selecting a Server[edit | edit source]
When choosing a server you should consider the one with:
- Lowest ping time.
- Time zone: East, West, or European.
Ping time is the overall time it takes for data to travel from your computer to the server and back to your computer. Servers that are closer to your location will have lower ping times than those further away, but ping time can vary. For best results, make sure you aren't using much of your bandwidth while playing.
