City of Misfortune Mystery

City of Misfortune Mystery is a series of classic quests that take place around the City of Misfortune and Dawn's Cry Isle areas. All quests except the final one are available for players level 40 and above. The final quest is available at level 43+. The quests are listed in the Area section of the Perfect World Anecdote, and will award players with 1 Insight Point for completion. Completing this quest chain will award players with a level 40 Royal armor set (chest, pants, boots, wrists) of their choosing.

Players will be introduced to this quest chain after completing their level 39 Spiritual Cultivation quests and becoming Aware of Discord. Between levels 39 and 42 they can receive the quest "City of Misfortune" from The Celestial One in Heaven's Tear (470, 568 ↑47) to be introduced to the quest chain. This quest is not required to begin the City of Misfortune Mystery regional quests.

Tips

• You will be able to pick up multiple quests in the City of Misfortune and Dawn's Cry Isle to save time.
• Many of the coordinates for monsters around Dawn's Cry Isle are incorrect in-game, as Dawnglory was added on top of some locations. Many coordinates are also inaccessible.
• The final quest is not accessible until level 43. You may also need help for this quest as it requires killing a difficult boss.
• If you skipped this quest series you will be conveniently teleported to the area when finishing the Crisis of the Tauroc classic quest chain at level 62.

1. Talk to the Ancestor's Stele at the bottom of the ocean, south of the City of Misfortune (661, 928 ↑15).

Return the Tablet

Quest is automatically acquired after completing The Tablet. If the player fails or trashes this quest they can pick it up at the Ancestor's Stele at the bottom of the ocean, south of the City of Misfortune (661, 928 ↑15).

1. The player will receive a Carved Tablet.
2. Give the tablet to Count Misfortune at the City of Misfortune (665, 968).

Master Tsang

Lofty Orb

Quest is automatically acquired after completing Master Tsang. If the player fails or trashes this quest they can pick it up at Master Tsang on Tai Chi Shore (576, 987).

1. Kill 5 Poisonfang Vipents on Tai Chi Shore for Vipent Gallbladders.
2. Kill 5 Barrens Pythons on Tai Chi Shore for Python Gallbladders.
3. Give the gallbladders to Master Tsang on Tai Chi Shore (576, 987).

Pao Yu

Quest is automatically acquired after completing Lofty Orb. If the player fails or trashes this quest they can pick it up at Master Tsang on Tai Chi Shore (576, 987).

1. The player will receive a Lofty Orb.
2. Give the orb to Pao Yu at the City of Misfortune (666, 968).

The Scepter

1. Kill 3 Bloodthirsty Sharks in the ocean surrounding the City of Misfortune for Worn Sailor Suits.
2. Give the suits to Count Misfortune at the City of Misfortune (665, 968).

The Recluse

Quest is automatically acquired after completing The Scepter. If the player fails or trashes this quest they can pick it up at Count Misfortune at the City of Misfortune (665, 968).

1. Talk to Master Tsang on Tai Chi Shore (576, 987), northwest of the City of Misfortune.

The Book

Quest is automatically acquired after completing The Recluse. If the player fails or trashes this quest they can pick it up at Master Tsang on Tai Chi Shore (576, 987).

1. Kill Empyrean Slither on Tai Chi Shore for the Esoterica of Misfortune. You may need help to kill this boss.
   • Empyrean Slither is a level 50 boss with 238k health. It will constantly AoE sleep players and reduce their maximum health. It will also constantly use a single-target bleed damage-over-time debuff. Attacking it from close range will prevent it from using these attacks as frequently but it will deal regular physical damage to the player instead.
2. Give the esoterica to Master Tsang on Tai Chi Shore (576, 987).

Find the Scepter

Quest is automatically acquired after completing The Book. If the player fails or trashes this quest they can pick it up at Master Tsang on Tai Chi Shore (576, 987).

1. The player will receive a second Esoterica of Misfortune (both will eventually be consumed).
2. Give the esoterica(s) to Count Misfortune at the City of Misfortune (665, 968).

An Old Friend

Quest is automatically acquired after completing Find the Scepter. If the player fails or trashes this quest they can pick it up at Count Misfortune at the City of Misfortune (665, 968).

1. The player will receive a Stamp of Misfortune.
2. Give the stamp to the Old Soldier northeast of Angler's Village (655, 856), which is located on the shore south of the City of Misfortune.

Test of a Recluse.

Quest is automatically acquired after completing An Old Friend. If the player fails or trashes this quest they can pick it up at the Old Soldier northeast of Angler's Village (655, 856).

Quest is automatically acquired after completing Waning Moon's Pickaxe. If the player fails or trashes this quest they can pick it up at Hsun the Elder on Dawn's Cry Isle (706, 907).

1. Kill 5 Exotic Venomtail Kings and 5 Callous Mantises on Dawn's Cry Isle.
2. Talk to Hsun the Elder on Dawn's Cry Isle (706, 907).

Return the Pickaxe

Quest is automatically acquired after completing Sweep the Island.

1. Kill 5 Ultrafin Protectors in the ocean south of Dawn's Cry Isle for Journal Fragments.
2. Give the fragments to Count Misfortune at the City of Misfortune (665, 968).

Dragon of the Depths

This quest is available from level 43.

Quest Dispatcher: Count Misfortune, City of Misfortune (665, 968)

1. Kill a Dragon of the Depths in the ocean east of the City of Misfortune. Players may need help to kill this mini-boss.
   • The Dragon of the Depths is a level 42 mini-boss with 82k health. It will use single-target ranged magic attacks as well as an AoE close-range physical attack. It will also drain the player's health.
2. Talk to Count Misfortune at the City of Misfortune (665, 968).

Rewards: 175 Silver Coins, 87200 Experience, 34880 Spirit, 9 Reputation

The player can also choose a level 40 set of armor. The armor is class-restricted, so players should make sure to choose the correct set.
