Historical Phases, also known as Historical Advancement, World Progression, or World Phases, is a system that was introduced in the New Horizons expansion. Players from a single server work together by completing daily quests to unlock restricted areas or quests in certain regions. Once the content has been unlocked it will stay permanently unlocked. The Primal World and Western Steppes are the only regions thus far to have Historical Phases.

Currently all quests and areas in the game have been unlocked. Phases and quests are listed for historical purposes.

Overview[ | ]

When content has been locked by the Historical Phases system, it is indicated on that particular region's map accessed by pressing the M key. An interface will be present around the top-left corner of the screen with the name of the phase, the objective, and the current progress made on the server. In cases like the Primal World, the map will also have areas grayed out with a padlock in the middle indicating that the area in particular cannot be accessed. The Western Steppes did not have this limitation.

Progress is made when players of a single server participate in certain daily quests. A small amount of progress is also made automatically as time passes. Each server progresses through the phases individually, meaning that some servers may unlock phases quicker than others. Once progress reaches 100%, extra quests and areas may be accessed by players, and the next phase (if there is one) will begin. Quests that were available during a certain Historical Phase might no longer be available after the phase is complete.

Primal World Phases[ | ]

See also: Primal World

The Primal World was the first region in the game to be locked behind Historical Phases. It was also the only region to have areas that were blocked by barriers, preventing players from accessing them until certain phases had been completed. Many of the phases were not introduced until further content updates; the Luneska area's Historical Phases were released with the Chill of Luneska update, while the Silent Sea area's Historical Phases were released with the Riptide update.

All servers on Perfect World International have unlocked all areas and quests within the Primal World.
